the meta-seeing method

The Art of Seeing Seminar invites you to a 5-weekend live interactive online perceptual journey. Through our tested methods, grounded in guided interactions with art, you acquire powerful tools to realize your perceptual potential. You enhance your observational skills, while developing analytical, communication, and creative thinking expertise vital to professional excellence.

The Art of Seeing Seminar is based on The Meta-Seeing Method, Anne Willieme’s proprietary methodology. The Meta-Seeing Method is centered around 9 ways of seeing that lead you from sight to insight. The Art of Seeing Seminar and programs have been the subject of research studies by both Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Such studies have demonstrated marked increases in reflection, observation, self-awareness, creativity, and stress reduction for the individuals who participated in her courses and training programs.

Willieme has led The Art of Seeing programs at leading academic institutions, museums and medical centers such as NYU Grossman School of Medicine, NYU Langone Health, Columbia University Medical Center, Cornell Weill Medical College, Mt Sinai-St Luke’s and Massachusetts General Hospital among many others

FAQs

I don’t have any art experience, will i benefit from this training?

You don’t need any prior art experience. The sessions are designed for both those participants with and those without any knowledge of art.

are the trainings based on viewing art only or do you also engage in hands-on activities?

Guided viewing of art is the foundation of our programs but we also use an extensive menu of hands-on perceptual activities to help you integrate our perceptual keys.

I’m a scientist, why should I engage with your seminar?

Our trainings provide perceptual strategies to help you access fresh perspectives. Uncovering new ways of seeing is a keystone to creative thinking, which benefits professionals and individuals across fields.

HOW can the art of seeing help me improve my communication skills?

Among a number of features, our perceptual trainings provide a set of tools that help you increase empathic intelligence. With such know-how, you can understand, with greater ease, another person’s point of view, a key asset in communication.

How can your programs help me increase my ability to read body language

Visual art is uniquely positioned to serve as a platform for enhancing one’s fluency in body language. Artworks offer a multitude of examples of non-verbal expression that can be studied in order to gain familiarity with its vocabulary. Such knowledge can then serve as an essential plus point in communication expertise.

Why should I think about optimizing, activating and integrating my perception?

Our perception is partial and works in highly automated ways so we tend to rely on limited and habitual modes of perceiving. Such mechanisms help us navigate our day with speed and efficiency, but they also keeps us locked into restricted modes of taking in and interpreting the world. What we see conditions how we think. Expanding how we helps us access novel insight.

How can looking at art make me more creative?

Enhancing sensory perception will help you gain a creative mindset. As you enlarge how you take in the world, you will gain access to additional information and new points of view. You’ll be able to “reframe” and obtain unique pathways to fresh ways of seeing, feeling and thinking.

how can your workshops help me build my team?

Our workshops provide an “out-of-our-daily-life” space conducive to sharing in novel ways. Discussing how and what one perceives encourages authentic dialogue. You become more aware of your own perspectives and such discussions also provide a platform for groups to get to know each other in a new context, while practicing effective observational, creative thinking and communication and strategies.

How can your programs help me enhance my capacity for decision-making

Enhancing your capacity to see helps you gather additional data and alternative perspectives. Having more information at hand can help you make more informed and less conditioned decisions.
